In order to use ExactOnline, it is essential that ExactOnline can access RetailVista ERP. This can only be done by opening a port (HTTPS) in the firewall. The consequence of opening a port in the firewall is that Microsoft requires a so-called 'SPLA' license for the underlying SQL server from that moment on. This is an expensive license that needs to be paid for every month and is practically unattainable for standalone RetailVista installations.

So, technically it is possible, but only if the license requirement regarding having an SPLA license is met, which is financially unattainable for non-hosting providers.
