With RetailVista POS version 15.1.5604 and higher, it is possible to make negative payments. Instead of a customer paying, the customer receives money back in that case. It is highly recommended to set authorization for a negative EFT payment (PosAddNegativeEftPayment) so that not every employee can do this. The reason for this is that in the Netherlands, refund payments are realized through a Refund. In this case, no check is done to see if the amount has been paid 'positively' before, and the same card is not necessary. Because any card and any amount (up to a transaction limit set by the bank) can be used, the risk of fraud is very high.

In RetailVista, the maximum negative amount that can be sent to a payment terminal can be set for each payment method. This way, for example, large negative amounts can be prevented from being sent, which could then be transferred via bank instead of negative payments.

Whether negative payments are possible also depends on the bank the store is connected to. At the time of writing this QA, negative payments are only allowed by Rabobank. The payment contract must be adjusted with the bank to enable negative payments. Negative payments are also only possible on the Yomani, Xenta, and CCV820 payment terminals. Unfortunately, negative payments are not possible on the commonly used Alvira payment terminal.

The payment terminals return the following error code if negative PIN transactions are not allowed according to the contract:

Payment terminal / protocol

Message

Banksys Xenta / VIC 1.06

Message on EFT: Refund not allowed for this card, aborted, remove card

Message on RetailVista: The electronic payment has failed. Refund not allowed for Maestro (or other card type)

Banksys Yomani / VIC 1.07

Message on EFT: Canceled, take card back

Message on RetailVista: The electronic payment has failed. Payment refused by terminal, code 5009

Banksys Yomani / VIC 1.06

Message on EFT: Canceled, take card back

Message on RetailVista:

The electronic payment has failed. Transaction refused, technical problem (Code 2629)

CCV OPI integration

<Not yet known>

On Banksys payment terminals, the amount (positive) is displayed and sometimes a PIN entry procedure is also started (only in case of old firmware). For the customer, this may seem like they have to pay again, especially if a PIN code also needs to be entered first. The only solution to not having to enter a PIN code is a firmware update, as old firmware does not support refunding at all. The positive display of a refund amount is currently not supported differently by Atos.

On the CCV payment terminals, the amount (positive) is displayed but after entering the card, the message 'Refund' becomes visible.
