Article summary

A discount label can be printed on a thermal printer form RetailVista. By scanning the barcode of this label, the discount percentage specified in the discount label will be processed on the next product in RetailVista POS.

In order to be able to print a discount label, it is necessary to first create a new type of barcode of type "EAN13Discountpercentage".

Barcodetype

-> Administration -> Barcodetypes

Click on the green "+" symbol to add a new barcodetype.

Description: Fill in the description
Barcodetype: Select EAN13DiscountPercentage
Leader price barcode: Specify the leading digits with which the barcode should begin

Note: The PLU and Price fields do not have to be filled in. For this type of barcode nothing will be done with that information.

Click on the "Save" symbol.

-> Start -> Promotions -> Print thermal discount label

Amount: Fill in the amount of discount labels
Percentage: Fill in the discount percentage
Note: Fill in a note, when necessary
Label type: Select the label type
Print to: Select the printer on which the label should be printed

When printing a discount barcode, the barcode will consist of the leading number specified in the "Barcode type", closed with extra "0" digits until a length of 9 digits is reached. After those 9 figures, the discount percentage will be shown by means of 3 digits. This can never be more than 100%. Finally, a checksum is calculated with the EAN13 barcode.

Example (spaces are provided for readability only):

997 000 000 010 5

997 000 000 is the indication for RetailVista POS that it is a discount barcode. The digits 010 is the discount percentage and the number 5 is the calculated checksum over all these digits. Nothing is done by RetailVista with this checksum, but the EAN13 barcode type requires the entry of such a number.

In the layout of the chosen label type, there must be at least one barcode field. Almost all other fields will not be filled, if used, because this type of discount label does not apply to a specific product. Therefore you need to use this barcode with caution. A customer can actually use this label on any item and get the specified discount. It is better to use promotional vouchers, those discount barcodes only work on a preset limited number of products.
