How can I print a euro sign on an Epson receipt printer?
In order to print the Euro sign, it is important to choose the correct codepage for the receipt printer. By default, an Epson receipt printer uses codepage 437, a US Europe codepage. The Euro sign is not present in this codepage. However, it can be found in codepage 1252.
In the maintenance of receipt printers, in the Advanced tab, this codepage should be specified. The encoding in the same tab can be left empty, as the encoding is only used in very specific situations, such as printing Chinese characters.
The codepage specified above is used by RetailVista POS itself to generate the correct printer line texts. It is then important to let the receipt printer use the correct codepage. This can be done through an escape code in the printer initialization.
In the 'Printer codes' tab, enter the text <esc>t<dle> for 'Printer Initialization code'.
The <esc>t is a command to select the codepage, and the <dle> represents the numerical value 16, which corresponds to codepage 1252. All codepages can be found in the Epson Technical Reference manual.
The reason that both an escape code and specification of 1252 in the codepage are necessary is that RetailVista internally encodes texts according to the specified codepage 1252. However, this does not guarantee that the printer will print them correctly. By specifying the escape code, the printer will process the text in the same way.
Synchronize and restart RetailVista POS to apply this change.
