How do I install the Feig Obid RFID reader in RetailVista POS?
It is important not to connect the RFID reader to the PC until the drivers are installed!
In order to use this reader in RetailVista POS, an RFID reader must first be created in the RetailVista back office environment. Go to 'Administration', 'RFID readers' for this. Create a new RFID reader and select 'Feig USB' as the type of RFID reader. Other settings such as COM port settings still need to be filled in, but RetailVista does not use them at all for this type of reader.
Now go to POS terminal maintenance in the 'Administration' menu and assign the newly created RFID reader to the POS terminal where the reader is connected.
Download the RFID driver software from the NedFox support website. It can be found in the 'Files', 'RetailVista' menu. The software is also available as a binary in this QA. Start the installation of this software and when prompted, connect the RFID reader to the PC as the last step. A green light will start blinking on the reader, indicating that it has power but is not yet able to process an RFID card.Once the cash register is started, the green light should remain on constantly.
Note: Starting from RetailVista POS version 23 and higher, the old 32-bit driver from Feig is no longer supported. It is important to download feig.zip from the binaries in this QA and extract it into the program folder of RetailVista POS.
Now synchronize the RetailVista POS database and start the cash register. To test if the card reader is working, for example, a user can be linked to an RFID card. For this, an administrator must log in to RetailVista POS. Then go to File, Configuration, and select 'Users'. Choose a user from the list and click on 'RFID card'. Then swipe a card over the RFID reader. If the communication is working correctly, the waiting screen will disappear immediately and the card will be linked to the selected user. Now choose to log out in RetailVista POS so that the login screen reappears. Swipe the card over the RFID reader. This should result in the login of the previously selected user (this can be seen at the bottom of the taskbar).
