This reader works via a USB connection and operates in host mode. There is a serial port over USB.

No specific drivers need to be installed!

Connect the Giga Tek RFID reader.

In order to use this reader in RetailVista POS, an RFID reader must first be created in the RetailVista back office environment. Go to Administration -> 'RFID readers' for this. Create a new RFID reader and select Giga Tek as the reader type. Other settings such as COM port settings must be filled in (see settings); RetailVista uses this to control the reader.

Settings

COM port: 5 ('This may vary').

Do the following:

On the cash register, open Explorer, right-click > Manage > Device Manager > COM ports. Check which COM port the reader is connected to.

Baud rate: 9600
Data bits: 8
Parity: None
Stop bits: 1
Data flow control: Hardware
Use RTS: No
Check CD: No
Now go to POS terminal maintenance in the 'Administration' menu and assign the newly created RFID reader to the POS terminal where the reader is connected.

Now synchronize the RetailVista POS database and start the cash register. To test if the card reader is working, for example, a user can be linked to an RFID card. Go to File -> Configuration  and go to 'Users'. Select a user from the list and click on 'RFID card'. Then swipe a card over the RFID reader. If the communication is working correctly, the waiting screen will disappear immediately and the card will be linked to the selected user.Choose now to log out in RetailVista POS so that the login screen reappears. Now swipe the card over the RFID reader. This should result in the login of the previously selected user (this can be seen at the bottom of the taskbar).
