An example of a set product is a garden set that consists of a number of chairs, a table, and an umbrella.

Inventory

Inventory is available for the underlying products (provided it is properly maintained), but there is actually no inventory for the set product. The inventory of the set product is referred to as virtual inventory in RetailVista. This is always calculated 'on the fly' when the product is requested or ordered. The virtual inventory of the set product is calculated based on how many complete sets can still be assembled from the underlying products. If there are still many chairs available but only one table, the virtual inventory of such a garden set will be only 1.

Prices

When ordering a set product in a sales order, RetailVista will automatically add the underlying products. The price of the set product from product maintenance is copied to the sales order line and can be adjusted. The final price of the set product in the sales order line is distributed proportionally among the underlying products.

When changing a price, only the set product can be modified, the prices of the underlying products cannot be changed. The reason for this is that RetailVista calculates (and therefore overwrites) those prices each time the price of the set product is adjusted.

Sales

When selling a set product, the sales are always recorded on the underlying products. Therefore, it is also important that the set price is distributed proportionally among the underlying products. The set product will register a turnover of 0.00, along with the number of units sold. This way, it is possible to see how many times a set product has been sold, but to determine the turnover, the underlying products will have to be considered.

Webshop orders

For a webshop order, only the set product itself should be provided, including the set price. RetailVista will then add the underlying products and use the price of the set product to determine the underlying products.

Because the underlying products are added to the sales order, the available stock of those underlying products will decrease (depending on settings), resulting in fewer complete sets in stock, which can be seen in the virtual stock of the set product.
