Message 'cannot contact terminal xxxx '

When starting a Chip & PIN transaction RetailVista POS displays the message:

"Cannot contact Chip & PIN device with id =  xxxxxxxx"   (where xxxxxxx is the terminal id from your card machine).

Most of the time this has to do with a disruption of the internet connection. Please confirm that the internet connection is operational (for instance, by opening a webpage).

Also confirm that other tills are connecting with the card machine (that is: that other tills can complete a card transaction).

Restart RetailVista POS (the till software, not the complete till).
Try to start a new chip & pin transaction.
If you still receive the message, restart the till once more.
