RetailVista POS ("Point of Sale") serves as our advanced checkout system. This is not a browser-based solution but a comprehensive software package that is installed on a Microsoft Windows PC. A (Microsoft) SQL Express database server is also installed on the same system. All data necessary for checkout is stored in this database.
The significant advantage of this locally installed software is that checkout remains possible even in the absence of an internet connection.
Two Windows services run in the background to retrieve and send data. Modified data is fetched from the cloud, and completed customer transactions are sent to the cloud. The interval for data retrieval is adjustable and can be set up to once every fifteen minutes. Data transmission to the cloud occurs almost in real-time; transactions are processed in the RetailVista ERP environment seconds after being closed. If the internet connection is temporarily unavailable, these synchronizations will not occur, but once the connection is restored, synchronization will resume automatically. This also allows for the possibility of using RetailVista POS at events like markets or exhibitions. Once that system is returned to the store, all transactions will be automatically processed. Further, RetailVista POS also supports 4G (GSM) data connection, enabling its use at events or in new store locations awaiting internet connection.
Updates
NedFox periodically releases updates for RetailVista POS. Occasionally, when starting RetailVista POS, a prompt appears indicating that an update is available and asking if it should be installed. While accepting the update is recommended, it’s not mandatory. Our cloud environment supports data from older cash registers, making it backward-compatible.
Checkout Certification
RetailVista POS has received the Dutch 'Betrouwbaar Afreken Systeem' (BAS, Reliable Checkout System) certification. This certification signifies that the reliability and integrity of several key functional components of the checkout system have been tested and deemed correct. While certification does not guarantee fraud prevention, every effort has been made to minimize it. This certification is related to the RetailVista ERP cloud environment, so only cash registers using the NedFox RetailVista ERP cloud environment fall under this certification. Upon starting RetailVista POS, the text 'BAS Keurmerk' appears in the title bar if the cash register is located in the Netherlands and is connected to the NedFox RetailVista ERP cloud. Otherwise, this text is not displayed, and a warning will appear once a month upon starting POS, indicating that the cash register does not fall under the 'BAS' certification. This certification explanation does not apply to cash registers linked to locations outside the Netherlands.
