Article summary

In maintenance warehouse locations, all available positions of warehouses are determined once. A product that is in stock in the warehouse is always registered at a position in RetailVista. Warehouse positions always consist of a combination of 5 codes, with advice given in the explanation fields below on how to handle them.

The following fields are available:

Location level 1Indication of physical address of location
Location level 2Hall, building, zone
Location level 3Aisle, row
Location level 4Scounting height
Location level 5Position in section
CodeUnique code of warehouse designation within location level 1 to 5
Display orderOrder of position within location level 1 to 5 (*1)
Description
Location applicationThis specifies the application of this warehouse location. This field is only available at location level 5. The following choices are available:
Pick location

A warehouse pick location is a location where items can be picked via order picking. This is part of the location type.

Bulk locationA warehouse bulk location is a location where items can be picked via order picking. This is part of the location type. The difference between a pick and bulk location has to do with the creation of order picking instructions. If there is inventory on both a pick and bulk location, an order picking instruction will be created for the pick location. Therefore, a pick location receives inventory from a bulk location.
Storage location

A warehouse storage location is a location where products are located but cannot be picked via order picking. This is part of the location type. The difference between a storage location and bulk/pick locations is that no order picking instructions will ever be generated for storage locations. A storage location often contains sealed or goods stored for a longer period that are not immediately suitable for sale. For example, think of Christmas products.

Depending on settings and implementation, the inventory of storage locations is also deducted from the available stock on the webshop, preventing consumers from placing orders for products located in storage.

Multiple picking locationsTODO

*1 - This means that, for example, there are 6 location codes at position 2, such as OS-01, OS-H1-02, OS-H1-03, OS-H1-10, OS-H1-11, and OS-H1-12. If the sorting is set to 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 respectively, then during order picking, OS-H1-01 will be picked first, followed by OS-H1-02 to OS-H1-12. However, if for certain reasons OS-H1-10, OS-H1-11, and OS-H1-12 need to be picked first, then the sequence numbers should be 4, 5, 6, 1, 2, and 3 respectively. A similar situation can occur if, for example, a row OS-H1-01a is added to an existing warehouse between OS-H1-01 and OS-H1-02. The sequence number field can be used to adjust the actual order of a walking route through a warehouse to reality. The sequence number applies to the level of the record, between level 1 and 5.

An example of a warehouse code could be:

OS-01-12-2-1

This means a warehouse in Osdorp, hall 1, row 12, height 2, position 1. The recommended layout can, of course, be implemented differently in practice, depending on the situation. It is important, however, to always indicate the physical warehouse address as part 1 and not to combine multiple warehouse addresses under the same part 1 code.
