Article summary

This document describes the serial port settings within RetailVista for the different types of payment terminals currently supported by RetailVista. It is possible that the terminal is configured differently, but this document assumes a standard terminal setup.

In general, the use of USB to serial converters is strongly discouraged. These setups have been proven to not provide a stable connection in the long run.

  • CCV integration (500 series)
  • 9600 baud, 7 data bits, 1 stop bit, Even parity, No handshaking
  • Alphyra Ingenico (Alvira)
  • 9600 baud, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, No parity, No handshaking
  • Banksys (VIC 106, 107)

For this integration, only the COM port is important, as the baud rate setting is fully handled by RetailVista itself. By the way, a baud rate of 115,000 baud is applied, a speed that is not always achieved by cheap serial cards and certainly not by most USB to serial converters. It is recommended to use a serial connection on the PC's mainboard or a high-quality expansion card.

  • ICP SmartConcepts
  • 57600 baud, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, No parity, No handshaking
  • Telecash ZVT700 integration
  • 9600 baud, 8 data bits, 2 stop bits, No parity, No handshaking
  • Verifone 820 Datacash UK

For this integration, both the COM port and the baud rate are not important and can be set to any value. The reason for this is that the Verify 820 Datacash UK integration uses a TCP connection with locally installed ATS software. Within that software, the COM port and baud rate are set, and RetailVista has nothing to do with it. However, a Datacash UK terminal is controlled serially by the Datacash ATS software.

CCV 820 OPI NL integration

For this integration, both the COM port and baud rate are not important and can be set to any value. The reason for this is that the CCV 820 OPI NL integration uses a TCP connection directly with the CCV payment terminal. There is no serial control present/required at all.

If a terminal does not seem to function, it is recommended to enable the logging of that payment terminal. This is possible in the Administration, Payment Terminals menu by selecting debug mode 'Normal' and providing a diagnosis file name. The file name must definitely be without path indication, RetailVista POS determines the folder where the logging files are stored. By default, this is C:\ProgramData\NedFox\RetailVistaPosV2\Log. The logs are created and provided with a date/time stamp at this location.
