Why do I get a 'User not found' message when logging in with a barcode card?
This setting is often used when a RetailVista user has pre-printed customer cards with a barcode on them.
In the user maintenance, that barcode is taken over with the 'Simple password' of a user. The image below comes from the user maintenance screen:
By scanning the barcode customer card in the login screen, RetailVista tries to find one (1!) user with that barcode as the password. If successful, the login is successful. If there are multiple users who happen to have the same password, RetailVista cannot actually choose which user is trying to log in. For security reasons, no notification is given that the specified password is present in multiple users. That is a security risk and effectively informs a user about the validity of a password. The notification that arises instead is 'User not found'. Actually, that is exactly what is happening: RetailVista POS cannot determine a user that corresponds to the specified password.
To solve this problem, it is necessary to clear the simple passwords of the users who could have logged in with a customer card and possibly reassign them.
Furthermore, it is always possible to temporarily log in with a day password so that a cash register employee can continue working.
From RetailVista POS version 14.1.5407 and higher, the logfile of RetailVista POS can be read to see which users have actually been found to 'Share' the same password.
