When creating a down payment, a down payment type must always be selected. This tells RetailVista which payment method and which product should be used to register the down payment.
The following fields are available in the down payment type maintenance screen:

| Down Payment Type | Each down payment type is linked to a predefined behavior that determines how the down payment is processed. This dropdown list is fixed and cannot be changed after the down payment type has been saved. The available options are:

| Payment Method | When converting a reservation into an on-account delivery, any down payment of this type is converted into a payment using the selected payment method. | ||||||||
| product Number | When a down payment is created, the specified product number is used. If this field is empty, the product number from the system setting “Down Payment product Number” is used instead. |

Explanation of Down Payment Type Options
PSP
- When cancelling a sales order containing a down payment of this type, a refund instruction is created automatically.
- When sending refund instructions to the PSP, all approved instructions of this type are processed automatically.
Cash via POS
- When cancelling a sales order containing a down payment of this type, a refund instruction is automatically created using the down payment type “Bank Transfer.” If multiple down payment types with the “Bank Transfer” behavior exist, the one with the alphabetically first code is used.
Bank Transfer
- When cancelling a sales order containing a down payment of this type, a refund instruction is created automatically.
Gift Card
- When cancelling a sales order containing a down payment of this type, the system automatically creates a refund to the gift card used for the down payment.
