Gift card types

The functionality of gift cards and the associated information below depends heavily on the type of gift card. Refer to the RetailVista documentation on this website for correct configuration of gift cards in combination with a gift card provider type.

Tab General

DescriptionDescription of this type of gift card
Gift card typeThe following types of gift cards are currently supported:
RetailVistaThe internal RetailVista gift card processing. The gift card balances remain within RetailVista.
Intersolve gift card with simulationWhen selling an Intersolve gift card, a simulation is first performed for this type to check whether top-up or deduction would be successful before the action is actually executed. The advantage of a simulation is that top-up or deduction does not happen immediately at the moment of scanning the gift card. This allows the transaction to be completed first, and the gift card actions are finalized only at the end when closing the transaction. If a customer decides during the transaction that the top-up or payment with the gift card is no longer desired, it can easily be undone.
Intersolve gift card without simulationFor an Intersolve gift card without simulation, every top-up or deduction is executed immediately. Sometimes such an action cannot be reversed.
Intersolve voucher 1-step protocolAn example of voucher sales are prepaid phone cards. Contact Intersolve to determine which types of cards require a 1-step protocol.
HTA UK gift cardThis type of gift card is used for the horticultural trade association HTA in the UK.
Prepaid factoryGift cards from Prepaid Factory
GivexGift cards from Givex
EpayGift cards from Epay
Email behaviorIndicates whether an email address must be requested when selling this type of gift card. Whether anything is done with the provided email address depends on the card implementation (gift card type).
Revenue ledgerSpecifies the ledger to post the sale value of this gift card. The term "revenue" should not be taken too literally; in RetailVista, gift card sales are considered “non-revenue.” It is possible, however, to select a ledger where actual revenue is posted. It is recommended to create a separate ledger used exclusively for gift card sales and payments.
Host URLThe URL of the gift card provider’s server. No URL is required for a RetailVista gift card provider.
Sales init stringThe init string to send to the gift card provider when a gift card of this type is sold.
Payment init stringThe init string to send to the gift card provider when a payment is made with a gift card of this type.
Refund allowedIndicates whether it is allowed to refund money on this type of gift card. A separate type determines how refunds are handled.
Print PIN on receiptSpecifies whether a readable PIN should be printed on the receipt. The combination of a PIN and gift card number allows gift cards to be used online as a payment method. The PIN provides additional security so that not anyone can make online payments with a found gift card.
Digital cardIf a gift card is digital, a gift card in the form of a receipt is printed upon sale.
ExpiredIf a gift card type is expired, it will no longer appear in a selection list when creating new data. Existing data with this gift card type will continue to function normally.

Tab Products

In the products tab, an init string can be sent to the gift card provider for very specific implementations per sold product. This applies when different types of gift card products are sold, all linked to the same gift card type. Adding a product here allows an associated init string to be specified when that product is sold.

Tab RetailVista

Full usage only on RetailVista gift cards
This is a specific setting that only applies to 'RetailVista' type gift cards. When enabled, usage on this type of gift card must be “full,” meaning the full gift card value must be used at once. This setting may be removed in the future, as the same effect can be achieved by setting the maximum number of uses to 1 in the gift card definition.
