An incorrectly set codepage leads to incorrect display of special characters, also known as high-ascii.

When setting the encoding of the receipt printer, it must be specified which type of encoding should be used for composing a text string. Good experience has been gained with encoding text 'ISO-8859-1' for Chinese. The codepage for Chinese characters is 936.

If nothing is specified for the receipt printer, UTF8 is used as the encoding and the default Windows codepage. In the Netherlands, this is codepage 1252.
