RetailVista Images is a Windows application that allows images to be sent to RetailVista in bulk. A prerequisite for this software to work is that the barcode of the product can be derived from the image filename at a fixed position. The filename therefore does not need to consist solely of the barcode, but the barcode must be present at a fixed, predefined position within the filename.
RetailVista supports multiple images per product, and the Images application also supports this.
For each image, the software searches for a product based on the detected barcode. A checksum is generated for every image, which is used to check whether the image already exists. If the product exists, it is then checked whether the image already exists or whether it is a new image. Every image that is sent is assigned sequence number 1. If another image is sent for the same product, that new image is assigned sequence number 1 and the sequence numbers of the other images for that product are increased by 1. The image with sequence number 1 is used as the “main image”. Even if an image already exists (and therefore does not need to be sent again), its sequence number is still updated to 1.
For every image that is sent, both a small image (thumbnail) and the original image are stored. By default, the small image is shown throughout RetailVista. In product maintenance, a thumbnail image can be clicked to display the original image.
