Article summary

RetailVista POS can be used very effectively in a hospitality situation. With a good touchscreen layout, products can be sold quickly. It is not necessary to regularly use the touchscreen designer. NedFox advises to use PLU (Price LookUp) codes, where pages and corresponding buttons with PLU codes are designed in advance. At a later time, products can be assigned a PLU code, which automatically appears in the button text. When a new or different product is desired, it is only necessary to assign the corresponding PLU code in the product maintenance.

The example below shows a small part of the touchscreen designer where 3 product buttons are assigned.

Each product button is assigned a PLU code, where the first button has been assigned PLU code 9001, the second button PLU code 9002, and the third button PLU code 9003. This can also be seen by selecting a button in the touchscreen designer:

Furthermore, it is very important to leave the 'Text' field empty. By leaving this empty, RetailVista POS will automatically place the product description in that button when starting up, or if there is no short product description, the normal product description will be used.

Tip: The | symbol can be used in the product description. By using this symbol, a new line is started. This way, longer product descriptions can be divided over multiple lines in a button.

In RetailVista ERP product maintenance, the following product has been created in this example. This product has PLU number 9000 and 'Art description|9000' has been used as the POS button text. The | symbol places the text '9000' on the 2nd line of the POS button text.

By starting RetailVista POS, an attempt will be made to find a product with that PLU number for each button. If successful, the product description will be displayed in the screenshot below. The product with PLU 9000 was found and the corresponding POS button text is visible. The other two buttons do not have text, because no product was found with PLU code 9001 or 9002.

It is also possible to start POS (possibly temporarily) with the parameter /ShowTouchPluCodes. At that moment, PLU codes are displayed on all buttons that are not linked to a product. This is visible in the screenshot below. This shows that a product needs to be assigned PLU 9001 to be linked to the 2nd button.

By working in this way with pre-created pages and pre-created buttons per page, it is not necessary to constantly work in the touchscreen designer to link products to the correct buttons.
