How does the article discount sticker work in RetailVista?
In order to print a discount label, it is necessary to first create a new barcode type of 'EAN13 discount percentage' under 'Barcode Types'. Then specify the leading digits with which the barcode should start.
Note: The PLU and Price fields do not need to be filled in, as this barcode type does not use that information!
Now go to Start, Promotions, and choose 'Print thermal discount label'. The screen below will appear, where you can enter the number of labels to print and the discount percentage. Then choose a label type to use and the printer on which to print the label.
When printing a discount barcode, the barcode will consist of the leading number specified in the 'Barcode Type', followed by additional '0' characters until a length of 9 digits is reached. After those 9 digits, the discount percentage will be indicated using 3 digits. However, it can never be more than 100%. Finally, a checksum value is calculated for the EAN13 barcode.
Example (spaces are included for readability only):
997000 000 010 5
Where 997000 000 indicates in RetailVista POS that it is a discount barcode.
The text 010 is the discount percentage and the number '5' is the calculated check digit over all these numbers. RetailVista does not do anything with this check digit, but the Ean13 barcode type requires the mention of such a digit.
The chosen label type will have to have a barcode as a field in the layout at minimum. Almost all other fields will not be filled (if used) because this type of discount label is not applicable to a specific product. For this reason, caution is requested when using this code, a customer can basically stick this sticker on any product and get the specified discount. It is better to use promotion vouchers; those discount barcodes only work on a pre-set limited number of products.
